The Opportunity

Mental Fitness Collective is a registered charity focused on building mental fitness through proactive, skill-based approaches to mental health.

Our work is centred on strengthening people’s capacity to thrive, adapt to change, overcome challenges, and stay connected across everyday life, rather than only responding once difficulties arise.

As the organisation strengthens its foundations and prepares for future funding, partnerships, and external engagement, we are seeking an experienced Board Director – Grants and Philanthropy to provide sector insight and strategic guidance at board level.

This is a non-executive, voluntary board role, offering the opportunity to help position a growing organisation appropriately within government, philanthropic, and not-for-profit systems as it matures.

Time Commitment

One board meeting per month, plus preparation, averaging approximately 2–4 hours per month during business-as-usual periods.

The Role

The Board Director – Grants and Philanthropy brings a governance-level understanding of how charities operate, are assessed, and are supported within public and philanthropic environments.

This role does not involve operational delivery of grants. Instead, it supports the Board by helping ensure organisational strategy, positioning, and decision-making align with sector expectations, funding realities, and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic insight into government, philanthropic, and not-for-profit environments

  • Advise the Board on fundability, positioning, and sector expectations

  • Provide governance oversight and board-level direction on grant funding strategy and priorities across the grant lifecycle.

  • Strategic thinking with strong governance awareness

  • Ability to provide clear, pragmatic advice at board level

  • Prior board or senior advisory experience is desirable.

Why Join Mental Fitness Collective

For many board members, this role represents a rare opportunity to apply professional experience to an issue that directly affects everyday life and community wellbeing, in a way that goes beyond advisory input and into genuine governance influence.

Mental Fitness Collective is at a formative stage of growth, where board involvement meaningfully shapes direction, governance standards, and long-term impact. Decisions made at this stage will influence how the organisation evolves, how it engages with communities and institutions, and how a proactive, skills-based approach to mental wellbeing is established over time.

We will review applications on a rolling basis and aim to respond within four weeks. Successful candidates will be contacted regarding next steps.
